Day 1: Huacarpay – Paucartambo – Upper Manu Road
We will pick you up in the morning from your hotel in Cusco to begin our journey. As we head south, we will pass through several picturesque villages known for their distinct economic activities, such as traditional bakeries and authentic Peruvian cuisine. Our first stop is Huacarpay Lake, a Ramsar-designated wetland, recognized for its ecological importance. Here, we can observe over 118 bird species, including several migratory and endemic species.
After exploring Huacarpay, we will continue our drive across the Andes, arriving at the historic colonial village of Paucartambo. Once a significant trade hub during the colonial era, this village still retains its vibrant market culture. After lunch and a short exploration of the town, we will ascend to Ajanaco Pass (3,500 m.a.s.l.), the gateway to the Manu Biosphere Reserve. From this point, we officially enter Manu National Park and begin our descent into the lush cloud forest.
As we traverse this pristine habitat, the landscape changes dramatically within minutes, unveiling an explosion of biodiversity. If we are fortunate, we may encounter mixed flocks of tanagers, orchids, and a variety of exotic flora. Upon arriving at our lodge, we will be greeted by a breathtaking hummingbird spectacle, as these dazzling creatures flock to nearby feeders.
Overnight: Upper Manu Road (L:D)
Day 2: Manu Road – Amazon Foothills
Waking up above the clouds is a surreal experience, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the mist-covered forest below. After breakfast, we will visit a private orchid garden, home to a diverse collection of these exotic flowers.
We will then continue our descent along the legendary Manu Road, stopping for short walks to observe the shifting landscapes and the increasing diversity of wildlife. As we leave the Andean slopes, we enter the tropical rainforest, where we will enjoy a picnic lunch amidst nature.
Later in the afternoon, we will reach our comfortable eco-lodge, offering a tranquil setting to unwind. After dinner, we will embark on an exciting night walk, searching for nocturnal creatures such as insects, frogs, snakes, and the elusive night monkey, the only nocturnal primate in the Americas.

Day 3: Machuhuasi Oxbow Lake
After an early breakfast, we will continue our journey deeper into the tropical rainforest, heading to the Machuhuasi Oxbow Lake, a prime habitat for monkeys, exotic birds, and other wildlife. This unique ecosystem is surrounded by lush vegetation and offers an incredible opportunity to observe animals from traditional balsa rafts, gliding silently across the water.
We will spend the morning exploring the lake and its surroundings, spotting aquatic birds, fish beneath the surface, and other fascinating wildlife. Around midday, we will return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we will venture into the lodge’s private trail system, immersing ourselves further into the rainforest’s diverse flora and fauna.
Overnight: Amazon Foothills (B:L:D)
Day 4: Macaw Clay Lick & Hot Springs
At dawn, we will embark on a boat excursion down the Alto Madre de Dios River to reach the Macaw Clay Lick, an extraordinary natural phenomenon. Hundreds of parrots, parakeets, and macaws gather here daily to consume the mineral-rich clay, which plays a crucial role in their diet. This spectacular display of colors, movement, and sounds is one of the most breathtaking wildlife experiences in the Amazon.
After witnessing this unforgettable event, we will return to our lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to relax in natural hot springs, surrounded by the serene beauty of the jungle. Later, we will begin our journey back toward the cloud forest, where we will spend the night.
Overnight: Manu Road – Cloud Forest (B:L:D)
Day 5: Andean Cock-of-the-Rock Lek – Return to Cusco
On our final morning, we will visit one of the most iconic sites of the cloud forest—the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock Lek. Known as Peru’s unofficial national bird, the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock is famous for its brilliant red plumage and elaborate courtship displays. From a secluded observation point, we will witness males performing their daily ritual—singing and dancing to attract females.
After this incredible experience, we will enjoy breakfast before beginning our return journey to Cusco, where we will drop you off at your hotel, concluding an unforgettable adventure.
If you have a flight to Lima, we can arrange a direct transfer to the airport.

Medical and Health Information:
If you are concerned about altitude adjustment, rest assured that Cusco’s altitude is generally not an issue since you may have already spent time there. However, even if you haven’t, our nature tour is designed to be relaxing, with minimal physical exertion as most travel is done by vehicle, with only short and comfortable walks.
Altitude affects individuals differently:
- Some feel no symptoms, while others may experience mild effects like shortness of breath, lightheadedness, or mild fatigue.
- In some cases, symptoms may include headaches, nausea, or difficulty adjusting.
- Your body naturally acclimates by producing more red blood cells, so staying well-hydrated is essential.
Tips to Adjust to Altitude
- Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and caffeine, as dehydration can worsen altitude effects.
- Avoid excessive physical activity while acclimating.
- Coca tea is a natural remedy that may help ease symptoms.
- Eat light meals on your first day to avoid digestive discomfort.
- Your health and safety are our top priorities. Throughout the trip, we will regularly check in to ensure everyone is feeling well.
If any participant experiences discomfort, we can quickly arrange a visit to a nearby medical center. Additionally, pharmacies are available should you require any medication following a doctor’s evaluation.
For altitude sickness relief, consult your doctor about preventative medications. For headaches, over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), or naproxen (Aleve) can be helpful.
